Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange on Monday accused activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party of tearing banners put up by Maratha supporters outside a village to stop visits by political leaders.

A clash occurred at Boregaon Jahangir village in Bhokardan tehsil in Jalna district on Sunday when BJP activists allegedly tore banners put up by supporters of the Maratha reservation, banning political leaders from entering the village.

Bhokardan tehsil is the hometown of BJP leader and Union Minister Raosaheb Danve.

Talking to reporters after reaching Antarvali Sarti village, Jarange said, "If they tear our posters, we will tear their clothes. But I have told supporters to maintain peace and remain patient."

Jarange was discharged from a hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after undergoing treatment for 12 days.

The activist further clarified that he has asked villages to lift the ban on entry to political leaders, as the state government has sought two months to resolve the reservation issue.

20:52   Amshipora encounter: Captain's life term suspended
The armed forces tribunal in New Delhi has suspended the life sentence of an Army captain who was found guilty of killing three men in a "staged" encounter in south Kashmir's Amshipora village in July 2020.

The tribunal also granted conditional bail to Captain Bhoopendra Singh and directed him to appear before its principal registrar on the first Monday of every month starting from January next year.

When contacted, Captain Singh's counsel Maj (Retd) Sudhanshu S Pandey declined to share details of the case, saying it is still sub-judice.

He, however, confirmed the grant of bail and said the stand of the defence which the Summary General Court Martial had completely disregarded has been vindicated.

"Such conviction of the young officer in this manner would have a very demoralising effect on other officers who are sacrificing their lives for the defence of the nation. It would have led to a bizarre situation where the young officers instead of showing willingness to put their lives at risk for word of command will insist on written orders when such operations are conducted. I express my gratitude for the armed forces tribunal to uphold the rule of law," he said. -- PTI

17:54   Govt allows 2nd Chinese ship to dock at Vizhinjam
A second Chinese vessel carrying a ship-to-shore crane for the international deep-sea facility at Vizhinjam docked at the port on Monday, sources at the port said.

The ship, Zhen Hua 29, had reached the Kerala coast on November 9 and was awaiting clearance from the ministry of home affairs (MHA) to berth at the dock, the sources said.

The MHA's nod to berth was received on Monday and the vessel docked at the port at around 3 pm, they said.

In addition to the one ship-to-shore crane meant for Vizhinjam port, the ship was also carrying several yard cranes for Mundra port, the sources said.

After offloading the ship-to-shore crane, the vessel will leave for Mundra port in Gujarat.

The first ship to arrive at the port, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 7,700 crore, was Zhen Hua 15 and it carried two-yard cranes and a ship-to-shore crane for the deep-water facility.

All three cranes have been successfully offloaded and installed, the sources said.

The Vizhinjam port is being constructed under the public-private partnership model. The Adani group is the private partner in the development of what will become one of the largest ports in the world, once commissioned.

The project, scheduled to be commissioned in 2019, was delayed due to issues with land acquisition. Fishermen carried out violent protests opposing it, alleging that the port would adversely affect their livelihood.

16:52   Nepal government bans Tiktok
The Nepal government on Monday decided to ban the Chinese-owned social network platform Tiktok, citing its negative effects on social harmony.

According to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, Monday's Cabinet meeting decided to prohibit TikTok's use.

The decision to ban Tiktok will be implemented through the Ministry of Communication and IT, she said.

The Nepal government decided to ban Tiktok due to its negative effects on social harmony, The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported.

A Cabinet meeting on Thursday made it mandatory for social media sites such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok and YouTube, among others, to open their liaison offices in Nepal.

Although freedom of expression is a basic right, a large section of society has criticised TikTok for encouraging a tendency of hate speech, the government said.

In the past four years, 1,647 cases of cybercrime have been reported on the video-sharing app, the report said.

The Cyber Bureau of the Nepal Police, Ministry of Home Affairs, and representatives of TikTok discussed the issue earlier last week. Monday's decision is expected to be enforced following the completion of technical preparations, it said.

Sharma clarified the decision to shut down Tiktok will be implemented promptly by setting a specific deadline.

However, Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa expressed reservations about the decision.

'The government's decision to ban Tiktok is wrong; the government should regulate the social media site,' ruling party leader Thapa said on X.

'The government's decision should be rectified as it violates freedom of expression and individual freedom,' he pointed out.

The decision comes as another setback for the Chinese networking platform, which has come under scrutiny in various countries, including India, the US, the European Union and the UK, where the governments have banned the application from its network over security concerns.   -- PTI

The declaration as outlawed of the other organisations is fresh.

In its notification, the MHA said the central government is of the opinion that if there is no immediate curb and control of the Meitei extremist organisations they will take the opportunity to mobilise their cadres for escalating their secessionist, subversive, terrorist and violent activities.

He said some professional exchanges and mutual visits will also be included as part of the exercises.

"This is the third time for China and Pakistan to hold such an exercise, aiming to consolidate the all-weather strategic partnership and traditional friendship between the two countries, and strengthen realistic combat training of the two militaries," the Chinese military spokesperson added. -- PTI

15:23   Kanhaiya Lal murder accused are BJP people: Gehlot
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has claimed that those behind Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal's murder last year were "BJP people", who had been freed from police detention days before the incident under the party's pressure.

He levelled the charge during a meeting in Jodhpur on Sunday with Congress leaders and workers ahead of the November 25 Rajasthan assembly polls. The Udaipur tailor was murdered on June 28 last year by two cleaver-wielding men who accused him of insulting Islam.

The opposition BJP in the state dismissed the allegation and attributed the tailor's brutal murder to the failure of the Congress-ruled state government to contain communal incidents.

"The accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case are BJP people. They had been caught by police two-three days before the incident over some altercation and the BJP leaders had got them out from police detention," Gehlot alleged.

He claimed the BJP had become "defensive" about the incident because of this.

In his recent speeches in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also targeted the Gehlot government over the incident.

Refuting the allegations, the BJP's election in-charge for western Rajasthan and Rajya Sabha member Rajendra Gehlot asked if the accused had been caught by police, why they were let off.

"It is the state government's weakness if they were let off by the police. The state government has information and complaints had been given to the police but in spite of that, such a heinous crime was allowed to take place," the BJP leader said.

The chief minister also raised doubts about the investigation conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the murder case, saying it has been dragging its feet in the matter and nobody knows what was going on.

"We had caught the accused within two-three hours of the murder, but the NIA took over the case the same night. We do not know since then what the progress in the case has been. Had it been with SOG, there would have been some progress," he claimed.

Claiming that the pace of the investigation is purposefully slow, the chief minister attributed it to the intention of the BJP to make it a poll issue.
He also claimed that while the Congress acted with all seriousness in the matter, BJP leaders left for a conference in Hyderabad.

"The moment the incident took place, I left for Udaipur, dropping all my programmes in Jaipur. But the BJP leaders left for Hyderabad for a conference which also included their leader of the opposition," Ashok Gehlot said.

14:34   Rishi Sunak sacks India-origin home secretary: Reports
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak began a cabinet reshuffle on Monday morning and began by sacking his home secretary, Suella Braverman, after days of speculation over her job since it emerged a controversial newspaper article attacking the Metropolitan Police was published without clearance from her boss, according to reports coming out from Downing Street.

The 43-year-old Goan-origin cabinet minister has repeatedly courted controversy in her senior UK Cabinet role, most recently by accusing the Met Police of playing favourites when tackling aggressive Israel-Gaza protests in an article in The Times

Sunak had been under pressure from sections of his Conservative Party as well as faced attacks from the Opposition for allowing her to continue in her job after she went ahead with the article in a perceived breach of the ministerial code.

Our brave police officers deserve the thanks of every decent citizen for their professionalism in the face of violence and aggression from protesters and counter protesters in London yesterday. That multiple officers were injured doing their duty is an outrage, Braverman said in a statement on Sunday evening following far-right violence during the protests over the weekend.

The sick, inflammatory and, in some cases, clearly criminal chants, placards and paraphernalia openly on display at the march mark a new low. Antisemitism and other forms of racism together with the valourising of terrorism on such a scale is deeply troubling, she said.

However, her intervention in support of the police may have come a little too late to save her job in the end.

14:31   Cong has also understood that its time is over in Chhattisgarh: Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hit out at the Congress over corruption and said the countdown has begun for the exit of its government in Chhattisgarh.

Addressing a rally in Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh, Modi also took a dig at the purported power-sharing agreement between Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy CM TS Singh Deo, and said when the Congress can ditch its own senior leaders, then it is certain that it will cheat people and not fulfil the promises made to them.

"The Congress has also understood that now its time is over in Chhattisgarh. Some journalist friends from Delhi and political analysts have told me that the chief minister (Baghel) is himself going to lose (election from Patan seat)," Modi said.

PM Modi also said the Congress hates him so much that it abuses the entire OBC community in his name.
"The Congress hates Modi. They have started hating even Modi's caste. For the last several months, Congress has been abusing the entire OBC community in the name of Modi...They have even refused to apologise after a court directed them to do so," he said.
"This is an example of how much hatred they have for the OBC community. It is the Congress which insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar. It is the Congress which conspired to end Babasaheb's politics," Modi said.

The Congress can do anything for vote bank and appeasement, he added.
Polling for 20 out of the total 90 assembly seats in Chhattisgarh was held on November 7. Voting in the remaining 70 seats will be held on November 17. -- PTI

11:38   Shinde campaigns for BJP; Sena calls him 'Allabaksh'
The Shiv Sena-Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray on Monday took a dig at Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, comparing him to a fictional character of 'Allabaksh'.

The criticism came after Shinde campaigns for the BJP in the four states -Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Chhattisgarh- where assembly elections are currently underway.

The late Ram Ganesh Gadkari's musical play Ekach Pyala's portrays two fictional characters 'Ved Shastri Shastribuva' and 'Allabaksh' who engage in an ideological debate after a bout of heavy drinking and after some time they forget their original roles and advocate the opposing ideology.

Shastribuva praises the greatness of Islam while Allabakhsh waxes eloquent about the greatness of Hinduism.

"This drama being performed in the 'Arya Madira Mandal' of the play Ekach Pyala is going on in the politics of Maharashtra today. Chief Minister Shinde is currently playing the role of Allabakhsh and he is propagating the hypocritical Hindutva of BJP," the mouthpiece of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) said in its editorial.

"Shinde sometimes goes on pilgrimage and often stays at the feet of Delhi. Now to entertain himself, he is devoting himself to BJP's campaign. It is good that within a year they have realized that there is nothing special left in the campaign of fake and duplicate Shiv Sena. 'Allabakhsh' of Maharashtra has come out to campaign for BJP. Their 'final destination' is the same!" the Saamna stated.

Targeting the BJP, Saamna stated that money, power and investigation machinery bring victory to the BJP.

"After December 31, the unauthorized politics of the illegal Chief Minister of the state, Shinde, is going to end. The interesting thing is that state Chief Minister Shinde will now campaign for BJP in the assembly elections of four states. It is also a joke that the duplicate army of Thane will campaign for the victory of the BJP in the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. The political power of the Bharatiya Janata Party lies in the fun of money. Money, power and investigation machinery are what bring victory to the BJP. Thoughts, policies etc. are insignificant," the editorial stated.

Saamana further stated that while Chief Minister Shinde is campaigning for BJP in poll-bound states, they are "afraid of holding municipal elections in Maharasthra."

"... it makes sense for Shinde to campaign in four states. He and his team will campaign in four states, but the same people are afraid of holding elections in 14 municipal corporations including Mumbai and Thane," it read.

10:39   Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' found from Hamas base: IDF
The Israel Defence Forces on Sunday alleged that the troops had recovered a copy of Mein Kampf -- the autobiography of Adolf Hitler -- from a Hamas terrorist base in Gaza.

The Arabic translation of the autobiography of the dictator was discovered in a child's bedroom, which was being used as a Hamas terrorist base.

Slamming Hamas, the IDF further said the terror group "embraces the ideology of Hitler", the one responsible for the "annihilation" of the Jewish people.

"Never again is NOW. IDF forces discovered a copy of Hitler's infamous book "Mein Kampf"--translated into Arabic--in a child's bedroom used as a Hamas terrorist base in Gaza. The book was discovered among the personal belongings of one of the terrorists, featuring annotations and highlights. Hamas embraces the ideology of Hitler, the one responsible for the annihilation of the Jewish people," the IDF posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Israel had drawn a parallel between the October 7 terror attacks by Hamas and the Holocaust -- the genocide of 6 million Jews by Adolf Hitler-led Germany.

Last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, too, compared the October 7 attacks with the Holocaust.

"On October 7, Hamas waged war on Israel. It was the worst terrorist attack the world has known since 9/11, but for Israel, proportionately, it was like twenty 9/11s. It was the worst act of anti-Semitic violence since the holocaust," Netanyahu said.

09:21   'Fauda' crew member 'killed in action' in Gaza
Netflix drama Fauda fame television producer, Master Sgt. (res.) Matan Meir, 38, has been killed in a blast from a booby-trapped tunnel shaft next to a mosque in the Beit Hanoun area of Gaza amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and militant group Hamas.

Meir, from Odem in the Golan Heights, was best known for his work on the award-winning Israeli television show Fauda, the third season of which was set inside the Gaza Strip. He was killed on Friday.

Israel has increased ground offensive along with air strikes in retaliation of the Hamas' initial unprecedented attack on the country's southern areas on October 7. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected growing international calls for a cease-fire unless it includes the release of all the nearly 240 hostages captured by Hamas.

"We are absolutely devastated to share that one of our very own Fauda family members, Matan Meir, was killed in action in Gaza," a post on social media platform X (formerly twitter) by Fauda Official said late on Saturday.

"Matan was an integral part of the crew for all 4 seasons of Fauda. The entire cast and crew are completely heartbroken by this tragic loss. We would like to extend our condolences to Matan's family and friends. May his soul rest in peace," it further said.

Speaking to Israeli web portal, Ynet, Fauda star Lior Raz praised Meir as a "man with a heart of gold."

"I loved you, Matan. You were always here for me at every moment you just wanted to help and be here for others," Raz said.

Meir was serving in the 551st Brigade's 697th Battalion. Four soldiers of the battalion, including Meir, were killed in the incident on November 10.

Fauda has been criticised by a section of viewers for "whitewashing" the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

At least 1,200 people have been killed on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, in the initial Hamas attack on October 7.

Forty-six Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the ground offensive began.

08:43   Delhi's air quality remains 'poor' post-Diwali
The air quality in Delhi and nearby cities reached hazardous levels a day after Diwali with the widespread violation of the firecracker ban across the National Capital Region on Sunday raising pollution concerns.

The overall air quality in the national capital as of 6 am stood poor with AQI at 286, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) data.

Visuals from across Delhi showed thick haze covering the roads, significantly reducing visibility and making it difficult to see beyond a few hundred metres.
