23:20   AAP battle: Yogendra Yadav takes to Facebook to counter PAC
The negotiations to end the infighting in the Aam Aadmi Party ended in bitter acrimony on Friday as the party headed for a showdown at Saturday's National Council meeting.

The two leaders said the allegations were lies and claimed the talks were a mere cover for seeking their resignation.

In a facebook post, Yadav said: "This is the note we sent on 17th March to facilitate discussion. This is being passed off as our resignation letter! Please read carefully our conditional offer of resignation. Judge for yourself if these conditions have been met."

18:05   'Co-pilot did not known to have links with extremism'
Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin, citing information from the "black box" voice recorder, said the co-pilot was alone in the cockpit.

He intentionally started a descent while the pilot was locked out.

Robin said there was "absolute silence in the cockpit" as the pilot fought to re-enter it.

However, passengers could be heard screaming just before the crash, he added.

The co-pilot, now named as Andreas Lubitz, 28, was alive until the final impact, the prosecutor said.

The Airbus 320 from Barcelona to Duesseldorf hit a mountain, killing all 144 passengers and six crew, after a rapid eight-minute descent.

"We hear the pilot ask the co-pilot to take control of the plane and we hear at the same time the sound of a seat moving backwards and the sound of a door closing," Robin told reporters.

"At that moment, the co-pilot is controlling the plane by himself. While he is alone, the co-pilot presses the buttons of the flight monitoring system to put into action the descent of the aeroplane."This action on the altitude controls can only be deliberate."

He added: "The most plausible interpretation is that the co-pilot through a voluntary act had refused to open the cabin door to let the captain in. He pushed the button to trigger the aircraft to lose altitude. He operated this button for a reason we don't know yet, but it appears that the reason was to destroy this plane."

Robin said that air traffic controllers made repeated attempts to contact the aircraft, but to no avail.

He said the co-pilot was "not known by us" to have any links to extremism or terrorism. -- BBC

17:37   Germanwings plane crash: 'Co-pilot intentionally started descent'
The co-pilot of the Germanwings flight that crashed into the French Alps took sole control of plane and intentionally started the descent, officials say, reports the BBC.

CNN reports that from what investigators have found, it seems the co-pilot "wanted to destroy the aircraft," prosecutor says of the Germanwings crash, say.

French prosecutors, citing information from the cockpit voice recorder said the pilot had just left the cockpit and had been unable to re-enter it.

Evidence from a cockpit voice recorder, retrieved from the crash site in the French Alps, indicated that one pilot left the cockpit before the plane's descent and was unable to get back inside, The New York Times reports.

"The guy outside is knocking lightly on the door and there is no answer," The New York Times quoted an unidentified investigator. "And then he hits the door stronger and no answer. There is never an answer."

"You can hear he is trying to smash the door down," the investigator added.

However, the investigator said that they were unaware why the pilot left the cockpit. "But what is sure is that at the very end of the flight, the other pilot is alone and does not open the door," he told NYT

16:25   Party will NEVER rise again, but I don't blame bechari Sonia: Cong leader
Congress leader Hansraj Bhardwaj spills the beans on the dissent within the floundering party.

Former law minister and governor of Karnataka, Bhardwaj, writes his party's epitaph saying, people are not ready to listen to the Congress any more. "The Congress won't rise again and the Congress is responsible," he says.

Refusing to place the blame at party president Sonia Gandha's doorstep, he says, "Main us bechari (Sonia Gandhi) ko koi dosh nahin deta. I don't blame Sonia Gandhi for anything," he said.

He however does blame dynastic politics and the inner coeterie and therefore alludes to Rahul Gandhi's style of functioning by sidelining senior leaders.

"Shiela Dikshit (former Delhi CM) is sitting at home now. She did good work in Delhi. This party isn't anyone's personal property. Congress took the senior experienced leaders by the ear and took them out.

"The new forces are very strong. We had supported Rajiv Gandhi even after he died. When Sonia-ji came everyone was encouraged. Imagine the amount of foul play when a man like Manmohan Singh is summoned by the court," he said.

Bhardwaj had trained his guns at former Union Minister P Chidambaram of "not doing enough to stop the 2G scam".

12:06   Rahul reaches out to Cong leaders via BBM, extends leave by fortnight
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who was supposed to be back from his month-long 'introspective' sabbatical is delaying his arrival in Delhi by a fortnight. This means Rahul will be MIA for a month-and-a-half.

Sources tell Rediff.com that Rahul's decision to delay his return to the capital comes after the CAG report, tabled in the Haryana state assembly yesterday, concluded that the previous Congress regime in Haryana showed undue favours to party president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra in a land deal with reality giant DLF.

An informed source tell us that Rahul has now activated his BlackBerry phone (President Barack Obama's choice as well) with a Delhi number and is in touch with top leaders of the Congress through BBM. He is also in touch via Whatsapp (possibly through another number).

Congress leaders who spoke to Rahul say he is disappointed and disgruntled. With what and why, is up for discussion. Watch this space.

Just yesterday, the face of the 'missing' MP was slapped onto several posters that have cropped up in his own constituency of Amethi declaring a reward for any information regarding Rahul's whereabouts.

According to reports, these posters allege that the Congress vice president lacks courage since he decided to go on leave during the crucial Budget Session.

11:20   Indias Oscars?
They may come with the ecumenical name of "National' Awards, but every time the announcement arrives, it becomes an occasion for parochial chest-thumping.

"Tamil cinema gets 8 National Awards,' say Tamil Nadu-based newspapers and websites. 08:38   Govt auditor pulls up Haryana for 'undue favour' to Robert Vadra
"Undue favours" to builders, including Robert Vadra's Skylight Hospitality, by the Haryana government during the Congress regime has come under attack from the Comptroller and Auditor General.

In its report for the year 2013-14, tabled in the Haryana assembly on Wednesday, the official auditor has come down heavily on the town and country planning department.

"....the department neither at the time of granting in-principle approval nor at the time of formal approval for transfer of licenses ensured that net profit beyond 15 per cent of the total cost accrues to public exchequer. This enabled the developers to earn huge profits merely by selling the land while the government had to forego sizeable amount," the CAG report said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and other Congress rivals had trained their guns on the previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda government accusing it of showing favours to Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in his land deal with realty giant DLF.

02:51   Why Germanwings pilots are refusing to fly
A number of pilots at low-cost airline Germanwings refused to fly on Wednesday following Tuesday's crash in the French Alps that killed all 150 people on board.

Their decision came as it emerged the Airbus A320 that dropped out of the sky and ploughed into a mountainside had been grounded over technical fears just 24 hours before.

Helicopter operations continued for a second day in the grim search for debris and bodies -- including those of three British nationals -- that have been scattered over acres of mountain terrain.

Reports revealed the aircraft had suffered technical issues, including a landing gear problem, just a day before it was due to fly from Barcelona to Dusseldorf.

02:23   Aamir Khan blasts industry, says kids' content scary
Actor Aamir Khan rues that a whopping 80 per cent of children are forced to watch content not made for them and described the phenomenon as "scary".

"If you look at our children's content, it's almost negligible, and the little that I see is very scary... It scares me to see the kind of children's content they are making," Khan, who also directed the film 'Taare Zameen Par', said at the annual Ficci Frames event in Mumbai.

He said that 80 per cent children are watching content not made for them.

He further said the film industry should focus on inculcating values like honesty and caring in the content, which will help in shaping a child's mind.

"We as a creative industry or media have a huge opportunity in front of us. Huge opportunity in building the nation with how we make children perceive what is honesty," he said, ruing that these days the society isn't valuing the virtue of honesty.

"Today, unfortunately, we are in a time where dishonesty is looked upon. How do we bring in a quality that people can admire?"

00:51   Cong dismisses reports of 'undue favours' to Vadra
Congress has dismissed reports that CAG has found the erstwhile Congress government of Haryana granting "undue favours" to Robert Vadra's company and said "there is no such finding of wrongdoing".

"Instead of proceeding to hold the previous Congress Government in Haryana guilty based on half truth, innuendos and insinuations, we must examine the facts," party spokesman Randeep Surjewala said.

Surjewala said the Accountant General of Haryana has neither indicted the previous Congress government nor Robert Vadra or Skylight Hospitality Private Limited for any violation of the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act, 1975 or any rules or policy.

"There is no such finding of wrongdoing as is being sought to be alleged," he said.

In its report for the year 2013-14, tabled in the Haryana assembly on Wednesday, the CAG has come down heavily on the Town and Country Planning Department.

"....the department neither at the time of granting in-principle approval nor at the time of formal approval for transfer of licenses ensured that net profit beyond 15 per cent of the total cost accrues to public exchequer.

"This enabled the developers to earn huge profits merely by selling the land while the government had to forego sizeable amount," the CAG report said.

00:51   Zayn Malik quits boy band One Direction
Zayn Malik has left boy band One Direction but the group will continue without him, they said today, in news set to break the hearts of millions of teenage girls worldwide.

Malik apologised to fans for leaving the British band, whose hits include "What Makes You Beautiful" and "Best Song Ever", but said he had to do "what feels right".

"I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight," he said in a statement released by One Direction on social media.

"I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world," Malik added.

The remaining members of the band -- Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan -- sent Malik "all our love for the future".

"The four of us will now continue. We're looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour," they said. One Direction, who played in Jakarta today, have sold more than 50 million records and had 91 number one hits globally in countries from Britain to Denmark and New Zealand.
