22:53   Cartoonist Aseem Trivedi evcited from Bigg Boss
Controversial cartoonist Aseem Trivedi has become the fourth contestant to be evicted from the Bigg Boss house this season.

Trivedi's eviction comes a day after suspected activists of Republican Party of India (RPI) pelted stones on the Colors channel office in suburban Andheri demanding his elimination.

"I don't know whether that was the reason behind my eviction. It doesn't matter, my work on the show was over. I wanted to come out," Trivedi told PTI.

The party objected to Trivedi's participation saying the cartoonist had "hurt the sentiments" of the Dalit community with his cartoons that had "grossly insulted" the national emblem and other constitutional symbols.

"Whenever you set out to do some good work, there are people who raise objections. They (RPI) have misunderstood me, but I have nothing against them. I am hoping at some point they will understand my cause," said Trivedi.

15:42   BJP asks Cong to clarify on Swamy's charges
Update on the press conference held by Arun Jaitley on the graft charges against Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP today asked the Congress to clarify whether it paid Rs 90 crore to Associated Journals, which ran the now-defunct National Herald daily, saying if it was true it was violation of tax and electoral laws.

Raising questions on the basis of details provided by Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy yesterday, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley told reporters that if it was true that such a transfer had taken place then it could lead to various consequences for the Congress party, including withdrawal of tax exemption.

Jaitley said he merely wanted a specific answer from the party and not adjectives like baseless and untrue as was used in a communication issued by Rahul Gandhi's office to Swamy threatening defamation case against him.

He said if the Congress party were to say that what Swamy has alleged was wrong then the matter ends. If not, then the whole issue is one of "gross impropriety and gross illegality". The former Law Minister maintained that a political party can use its funds only for political purposes and not any business or financial activity.

11:54   Why Bloomberg's endorsement matters?
The support by Bloomberg was unexpected, with both the Obama and Romney campaigns seeking the Mayor's endorsement, given that he is in a position to influence independent voters around the country.

Bloomberg said if Obama listens to people on "both sides of the aisle, and builds the trust of moderates, he can fulfill the hope he inspired four years ago and lead our country toward a better future for my children and yours. And that's why I will be voting for him."

A lifelong democrat who had turned Republican before becoming an independent, Bloomberg said Romney is a "good and decent man" who as Massachusetts governor had taken important steps to tackle climate change, including signing on to a regional cap-and-trade plan.

11:49   NY mayor Bloomberg endorses Obama
Updates on the US elections.
In a surprise development, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has endorsed US President Barack Obama who is seeking re-election.

Obama is pitched against Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential candidate, for the November 6 elections; which according to political analysts is a very close race.

In such a scenario an endorsement of the powerful Mayor of New York City could add to his advantage, they say.

In his endorsement, Bloomberg cited Obama's view and stance on climate change as one of the key reasons for his decisions. "Our climate is changing. And while the increase in extreme weather we have experienced in New York City and around the world may or may not be the result of it, the risk that it might be -- given this week's devastation -- should compel all elected leaders to take immediate action," he said. "But we can't do it alone. We need leadership from the White House -- and over the past four years, President Barack Obama has taken major steps to reduce our carbon consumption, including setting higher fuel-efficiency standards for cars and trucks," he added.

Obama in a statement said he is honoured to have Bloomberg's endorsement.

However, uncertainties about the timing and nature of the announcement have deepened over the past two days. The expectation that Rahul would be officially declared Number Two was strengthened when the party took another unusual decision: to hold a daylong samvad baithak on November 9 at Surajkund on Delhi's outskirts. 11:16   Patch-up? Mulayam drops graft charges against Amar
No permanent friends, no permanent enemies in politics, it seems.

A patch-up seems to be in the offing between friends-turned-foes Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

The Uttar Pradesh government has withdrawn all cases of money laundering against the former Samajwadi Party member, reports IBN Live.

An FIR had been filed against Amar Singh in 2009 during the Mayawati-led BSP regime. The move indicates a thaw in relations between the two leaders. However, sources say that Mulayam's own family, including his son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, is opposed to it.

10:55   Congress may ditch allies, go it alone in TN, Maha
The Congress is set to approach the approach the November 4 rally in New Delhi with a three-point action plan. The plan is this: Project Rahul Gandhi; a budget plan for an early 2013 Lok Sabha polls and an interaction session at Surajkund. The pary has also decided to go it alone in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

After the attack on her son-in-law, Robert Vadra, Sonia Gandhi wants to be freed from the PMO. Dr Singh is undergoing tremendous strains and to end this crisis, the party feels it is better to opt for an early Lok Sabha poll.

The added advantage for the Congress is that the BJP is in a divided house. This internal assessment apart, top leaders want to finalise whether to go it alone in the aforementioned states -- a plan propounded by Rahul Gandhi.

That will of course, mean the end of the alliance with DMK in Tamil Nadu and the NCP in Maharashtra.

01:02   NY mayor bloomberg endorses Obama
Hurricane Sandy had reshaped New York Mayor Michael R Bloomberg's thinking about the presidential campaign, and he has announced that he was endorsing President Obama.

"The devastation that Hurricane Sandy brought to New York City and much of the Northeast -- in lost lives, lost homes and lost business -- brought the stakes of next Tuesday's presidential election into sharp relief," Bloomberg wrote in an op-ed article for Bloomberg View.

Bloomberg's announcement is another indication that Hurricane Sandy has influenced the presidential campaign. The storm, and the destruction it left in its wake, has dominated news coverage, transfixing the nation and prompting the candidates to halt their campaigning briefly.

More than that, it appears to have given a new level of urgency to a central issue in the presidential campaign: the appropriate size and role of government.
