Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, who had launched a hunger strike yesterday for not being allowed to visit the Simhasth Kumbh going on in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, will be taken for 'Shipra snaan' by the police on Wednesday morning.

The Sadhvi, against whom the National Investigation Agency recently dropped charges in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, will be taken to Ujjain early in the morning.

Sadhvi, who wanted to take a dip in Shipra river and had secured an order from a court in Dewas district, had begun a 'fast unto death' at around 9 am on Monday in Pandit Khushilal Sharma Ayurvedic Hospital where she is undergoing treatment by refusing to take food and water.

Congressman and Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Paul Ryan today said that real estate tycoon Donald Trump is 'getting the nomination' of the Republican party for the November presidential elections.

"I hope it's Donald Trump. He's getting the nomination," Ryan told reporters at a Capitol Hill news conference when asked about a latest opinion poll in which 58 per cent of the respondents said they trust more, while another 39 per cent opted for him.

"He (Trump) should. He's wrapping up the nomination," said the House speaker who a few weeks ago said that he is not ready to support the New Yorker as the Republican presidential nominee. 21:57   PM wants study on impact of drip irrigation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday directed setting up of a task force to study the economic impact of drip irrigation in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra on parameters like water saving and productivity.
Reviewing the drought situation in Andhra Pradesh with its Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here, Modi also asked the NITI Aayog to set up a task force that could come up with a model on how to use technology for crop insurance.

21:53   Hindu teacher beaten up in B'desh for 'anti-Islam' remarks
A Hindu school headmaster in Bangladesh was beaten up and made to do sit-ups in the presence of a local lawmaker for allegedly making disparaging statement against Islam, prompting the government to launch a probe into the incident.
Shyamal Kanti Bhakta of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar Upazila was beaten up by local people after some unidentified persons using the megaphone of a mosque propagated that Bhakhta made offensive comments about Islam while he was punishing a Muslim student for not studying.
Bhakta was rescued by police after he was beaten up and made to do sit-ups holding ears in the presence of ruling Awami League lawmaker Selim Osman.
The MP claimed that the punishment was the only way to save the teacher from the wrath of the mob.

Bhakta has denied making any statement against Islam and claimed that some people in school management held grudges against him.
The traumatised teacher was then admitted at a local hospital under police protection.
Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid termed the humiliation of the headmaster as "unacceptable and inhumane", and said that action would be taken after the three-member inquiry committee submitted its report.
Education official AKM Nurul Amin, who heads the three-member inquiry committee, said that during the initial investigations it was found that Bhakhta had beaten up a student, "but we also received information that the attack on him was part of a conspiracy".

21:24   Don't ban 'offensive and bigoted' Trump from UK: Rowling
J K Rowling, who once called Donald Trump worse than her fictional Harry Potter villain Voldemort, has said that the controversial real estate mogul has her support to visit the United Kingdom and "be offensive and bigoted there."
"Only last year, we saw an online petition to ban Donald Trump from entry in the UK. It garnered half a million signatures," she said at Pen America's annual literary gala in New York.
"Now, I find almost everything that Mr. Trump says objectionable. I consider him offensive and bigoted. But he has my full support to come to my country and be offensive and bigoted there," she said.
Rowling, who became famous for creating the iconic Harry Potter book series, was referring to the UK petition with more than 568,000 signatures to ban Trump from visiting.
As a result of the petition, the British parliament held a debate but no vote in January, with lawmakers using the discussion to air their views on Trump under the protection of parliamentary privilege, which legally shields members from accusations of defamation or slander.
Rowling, 50, who accepted an award at the Pen gala for her humanitarian work, said the freedom that protects Trump's right to speak his mind also protects her right to "call him a bigot."
"If you seek the removal of freedoms from an opponent simply on the grounds that they have offended you, you have crossed a line to stand alongside tyrants who imprison, torture and kill on exactly the same justifications," Rowling said in her speech.
Last December, after Trump stood by his proposal for a temporary ban on Muslims from entering the US, Rowling tweeted, "How horrible. Voldemort was nowhere near as bad."

The Central Bureau of Investigation is expected to question representatives of NGOs whose names have cropped up during its probe against a Home Ministry official Anand Joshi who was allegedly issuing notices of foreign remittances violations to voluntary groups in an arbitrary manner.
CBI sources said the agency on Tuesday visited the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act wing of the home ministry to look for records related to the case which will be taken over by the agency.
The agency has alleged that the files of organisations like Care India, Snehalya Charitable Trust, Indian HIV/AIDS Alliance and All India Primary Teachers Federation were recovered from him.
The sources said role of other officials of home ministry is also under scanner but any action will depend on questioning of Joshi, an Under Secretary, and scrutiny of records.
The CBI claims that the representatives of some of these organisations were called and Joshi demanded and obtained illegal gratification.
The sources said Joshi would be confronted with the records seized by the agency from the home ministry.

20:10   In Swamy vs Rajan, experts back RBI Governor
Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan came under attack from BJP lawmaker Subramanian Swamy for the second time in two weeks on Tuesday. This time, Harvard-educated Dr Swamy upped the ante against the RBI chief byseeking his dismissal in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Most commentators, including right-leaning market analysts and economists, disagree with Dr Swamy's diatribe against Raghuram Rajan.
Former Infosys chief financial officer Mohandas Pai termed Dr Swamy's arguments against Dr Rajan as "silly" and having "no merit".

PN Vijay, veteran fund manager and BJP spokesperson, tweeted, "Respect Swamy but don't agree with his views on Rajan. Latter has cut rates by 1.50%. Also making serious efforts to stop crony capitalism."

19:09   Strategist Prashant Kishor may quit Cong if not given free hand
Strategist Prashant Kishor, the man behind the winning election campaigns for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, may quit his latest assignment with the Congress if he is not given a free hand soon, reports NDTV.

After Nitish Kumar's big Bihar win in November, the Congress' Rahul Gandhi had quickly roped in Kishor to work on his party's campaigns for Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, where elections will be held early next year. However, a section in the Congress feels Kishor is an outsider and is overstepping his brief.

In Uttar Pradesh, sources said, Kishor's demand that a new team lead the Congress into elections 2017 has not found favour with many leaders.

Sources say Kishor wants a team that includes party stalwarts like Kamal Nath, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Sheila Dikshit. This new team, sources say, may be announced by the end of the month, but if it isn't, it will cause a further strain in ties between Kishor and the party.

There has also been a confrontation in Punjab, where the Congress' Captain Amrinder Singh accused Kishor of stepping on his turf and reminded him through a press conference that, "I run the party."

Sources say Kishor currently has the backing of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. But the Congress also sent him a veiled warning on Monday, when spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said Kishor had been told when he was appointed that "is a strategist and will have no role in organisational matters and ticket distribution."

Sources close to Prashant Kishor told NDTV recently that " his relationship with the Congress is not one of pitching ideas and having them rejected or accepted...but an evolving relationship with both sides trying to figure out how to leverage best strategy for elections."

Kishor, when asked for his comments, called this "wild speculation".

17:50   Rename Akbar Road to Maharana Pratap Road, says Gen VK Singh
Minister of State for External Affairs General (Retd) VK Singh on Tuesday wrote to the Minister of Urban Development of India, Venkaiah Naidu, to rename the historical 'Akbar road' as 'Maharana Pratap Road.'

In his letter Singh says that Maharana Pratap had played an instrumental role in stopping the might of Mughal emperor Akbar, and was truly secular and a man of the masses.  "His Army was led by a Pathan and he had Bhils, Adivasis, and others, who formed part of his Army," wrote Singh.

The Minister of Development of North Eastern Region also mentioned that if 'Akbar road' could not be changed to 'Maharana Pratap', some other suitably important road in the Lutyen Zone should be renamed after the historical figure.

"I do feel that important personalities like Maharana Pratap and Chhatrapati Shivaji deserve greater recognition than they have been given thus far," Singh wrote in the letter.

17:35   134 arrested at Simhastha Kumbh posing as sadhus
As the 'Simhastha Kumbh Mahaparv' in Ujjain -- one of the four Kumbh Melas celebrated as one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world -- draws to a close, the police have arrested 134 people posing as sadhus and indulging in criminal activities, Additional Director General of Police V Madhukumar has said.

The authorities have initiated proceedings against these people as per law, Madhukumar said on Monday.

The ADGP said there have been incidents of theft, vandalism and even a murder attempt at the site of Simhastha Kumbh. Some of the incidents were targeted against sadhus -- religious renunciates -- belonging to various 'akharas' -- an order of such renunciates -- which get a pride of place in sacred bath rituals of a Kumbh pilgrimage.

Madhukumar said the third and last 'Shahi Snan' (royal bath) of Kumbh on May 21 would be a big challenge for the police on account of large crowds of devotees that are expected.

The Simhastha Kumbh, that began on April 22, will conclude with the Shahi Snan on May 21.

17:23   Proposed map Bill is internal matter of India, Pak has no locus standi on the issue: MEA
The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday slammed Pakistan after it expressed serious concern to the United Nations over Indias draft Geospatial Information Regulation Bill 2016.

The Pakistan Foreign Office had said that in violation of UNSC resolutions, the official map of India has been depicting the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India which is factually incorrect and legally untenable.

Reacting to Pakistans statement, the Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Vikas Swarup on Tuesday said that Pakistan or any other party has no locus standi in the matter. Proposed (map) bill is an entirely internal legislative matter of India, since the whole state of J&K is an integral part of India, said Swarup.

Government rejects Pakistans repeated and increasing attempts to impose on International community matters that India is open to address bilaterally with Pakistan, added Swarup. According to the draft bill, wrong depiction of the map of India could land the violators in jail with a maximum term of seven years and impose a fine up to Rs 100 crore.

17:09   Swamy used website printout in Parl for Agusta debate, Cong cries foul
Congress MP Shantaram Naik today gave a notice for breach of privilege against BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in the Rajya Sabha for allegedly submitting a "printout" of a website report to level allegations against its leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, in the AgustaWestland issue.

In his notice addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari, the Congress leader said: "Since Swamy has authenticated a website page printout, in which the names of Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, Oscar Fernandes have been mentioned, it means and implies that the very allegations are made by Swamy also."

Naik gave the notice under rules 187 and 188 of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States and appealed to the Rajya Sabha Chairman that it be admitted and referred to the Privileges Committee for "appropriate" action against Swamy.

"Swamy did not authenticate any letter from Christian Michel (alleged British middleman and prime accused in the AgustaWestland chopper bribery case) as he was not in possession of any such letter. Further question of Sonia flying in Mi-8 choppers does not arise as she did not hold any official post. "Swamy mischievously quoted abbreviations AP and said he is a political secretary...All these innuendos amply insinuate a particular specific person most irresponsibly and without authenticating any document.

"Swamy did not produce any certified copy of the judgement on which he relied extensively, which he should have done and authenticated," Naik said in the notice. AP, it was alleged, stood for Ahmed Patel, Political Secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Referrring to an interview of Italian Judge Marco Maria Maiga by a news channel on the issue, the Congress leader said "Swamy relied on the transcript of this interview".

"Swamy mischievously relied on and authenticated an inadmissible document, by all standards, to misguide the House, thereby committing another breach of privilege," he said.

Making clear the party's intent to move a privilege motion against Swamy, Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh had a few days back said: "Swamy has made baseless allegations and spoken big lies in Rajya Sabha on May 4. We will not allow him to go scot-free."

15:38   Man arrested for posting PM's morphed photo on social media
A man has been arrested by Gangavati town police in Koppal district of north Karnataka for allegedly posting a morphed photo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a social media site.

The photo showed Modi bowing to the feet of Telangana Legislative Assembly member Akbaruddin Owaisi from All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen party.

15:06   Modi's top 2 schemes: Swachh Bharat, Jan Dhan
Only a few, including Jan Dhan and Swachh Bharat, have caught the "imagination" of the country in the first two years of the Modi government while most of its other schemes have escaped notice, a CMS study finds out.

In all, there are about 40 schemes being implemented since Modi took power in May 2014, including those from earlier governments.

Nearly Rs 1,000 crore has been spent over the last two years by the NDA government to publicise these programmes. According to the study, hardly 3 per cent of respondents are aware of some 25 schemes out of the 40 being implemented. It was only 6 or 7 schemes in all that are acknowledged as being implemented by about a quarter of respondents, which include Jan Dhan Yojana, Swachh Bharat, Atal Pension Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak. Swachh Bharat and Jan Dhan grabbed more eyeballs across clusters, regardless of party in power across states. In terms of visibility, of the five idea-based schemes, Digital India and Make in India fared better than Smart City or Startup India or even Bullet Train. "Those schemes which involved local civil society, engaged individuals across age groups and the ones which are visible on the ground have caught attention of people across the country," the study said, adding that schemes which have employment and game-changing potential also made the cut. As per the study, there are others that made little headway, including the finance scheme to minorities, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, the pension scheme to the physically challenged, Marubhumi Vikas Yojana, Soil Health Card, Baal Vikas Yojana and Namami Gange, among others. The other interesting finding was that some of the Yojanas failed to go the distance despite the Pradhan Mantri title prefixed to them. Eight out of about 40 schemes are with the nomenclature starting Pradhan Mantri, but except Gramin Sadak and Rozgar Yojana, most others go barely acknowledged. The study, which has a sample size of 4,000, tried to find out the extent of the awareness of the schemes and their implementation.

14:46   Bison calf euthanised after tourists 'rescued' it
The story making the rounds last week about the tourists trying to "rescue' a bison calf in Yellowstone National Park came to an unfortunate conclusion Monday when the park service announced they euthanized the calf. A week ago, a pair of presumably well-meaning, but utterly misguided, tourists saw the calf in the middle of the road and worried the animal was cold and dying. That led them to believe it was a good idea to pile the animal in the back of their SUV and seek help at a ranger station.

14:26   Sheena Bora case: All accused to stay in jail till June 6
The judicial custody of all accused in the Sheena Bora murder case was on Tuesday extended till June 6. Earlier today, the Central Bureau of Investigation sought time to file a reply on driver Shyamvar Rai's application to be approver in a Special CBI court in Mumbai.

The hearing in the Special CBI court has been deferred till June 6. Shyamvar Rai, the former driver of Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukherjee on May 11 told a special CBI court in Mumbai that he wants to turn approver and disclose certain truths about the commission of the offence.

Rai had last week written a two-page letter to the court, stating that he wants to reveal the truth and had sought pardon in the case. The driver also told the court that he was under no pressure, threat or coercion to reveal the facts in the case and added that he was repentant for his act. The court had extended the judicial custody of Indrani, Peter, Rai and Sanjeev Khanna till today.

Indrani along with her husband Peter, former husband Khanna and former driver Shyamvar Rai is an accused in the murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora in 2012.

While former media baron Peter was arrested in November 2015 for hiding and destroying evidences in the murder case, Indrani and two others were arrested by the police in August 2015 and continue to be in custody since.

Media magnate Peter Mukerjea, a co-accused in the case, had earlier in March moved a fresh bail plea before a special CBI court, calling the allegations levelled against him as "false, baseless and unbelievable".

He also put the onus on his wife Indrani, saying that she was highly ambitious and was willing to go to any length for that. In the bail application, Peter claimed it was not him, but Indrani, who objected to Rahul and Sheena's relationship. He had also denied the allegation of being informed by Indrani about the murder and stated that the said calls were made by Indrani to her daughter Vidhie.

The media honcho was arrested on November 19 last year for his alleged role in the murder conspiracy in which his wife Indrani Mukerjea is the prime accused.

Pakistan on Tuesday said it has expressed 'serious concern' to the UN over a draft bill in the Indian Parliament over the map of Kashmir and called upon the world body to uphold its resolutions and urge India to stop such acts which are in "violation of international law".

Wrong depiction of the map of India could land the violators in jail with a maximum term of seven years and impose a fine up to Rs 100 crore, according to the draft 'Geospatial Information Regulation Bill 2016.

Pakistan has expressed serious concern to the United Nations Secretary General and the President of the UN Security Council, through letters by our Permanent Representative in New York, with regard to the Indian government's efforts to introduce a controversial 'Geospatial Information Regulation Bill' in the Indian Parliament,' the Foreign Office (FO) said.

It further said that "in violation of UNSC resolutions, the official map of India has been depicting the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir as part of India which is factually incorrect and legally untenable'.

Through the passage of this Bill, the Indian government would penalise the individuals and organisations who depict Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory as per the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, the FO said.

In a setback to BJP which dominated the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the party managed to win only from three seats while the AAP made its debut by winning five seats and the Congress wrested four seats in the bypolls to 13 wards.

The AAP fell short of its expectations of a "clean sweep" in the polls, which was billed as a barometer of Kejriwal government's popularity in Delhi, while Congress's victory was seen as the indication of party's revival in the city after it drew blank in the last assembly and Lok Sabha polls in Delhi. One Congress rebel won as an Independent from the Bhati ward in South Delhi. The MCD, which was trifurcated in 2012, has been a BJP-ruled body for nearly a decade. Out of the 13 wards, seven were previously held by BJP, one by RLD, and five by Independents. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people for helping the party emerge as the largest party in MCD bypolls.

12:39   Why President Mukherjee was not wrong to impose Prez rule in Uttarakhand
President Pranab Mukherjee has come in for some criticism from the Congress and the media over his nod to declaring President's Rule in Uttarakhand. But sources tell us that the President is unmoved by the criticism since he has taken the decision based on constitutional requirements.

This is how it went.

The Presidential proclamation papers reached him on March 27 after which Arun Jaitley and Nripendra Mishra met him and posed two issues related to constitutional functioning. The Uttarakhand Budget if not approved from April 1 would mean the disbursement of salaries to lakhs of employees of the Uttarakhand government would have to be stopped. There was no clarity about the passage of the budget in the state assembly. A video of the proceedings gave a different outlook hence President Pranab Mukherjee went by the rule book. The President also met the Congress delegation, Uttarakhand MLAs, legal experts before he decided to impose President's Rule in the state. After all that he was left with no option but to go by rule book.

12:19   India's chances at Rio should not suffer: HC on Sushil-Narsingh controversy
The Delhi High Court issues a notice to the Wrestling Federation Of India and the Central government on wrestler Sushil Kumar's plea on trials in the Rio Olympics 2016. The Delhi HC has asked the Wrestling Federation Of India to file an affidavit stating its stand on the matter.

This comes after the two-time Olympic medalist moved the Delhi high court seeking trials for the Rio Olympics. The 32-year-old wrestler, who a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and silver at the London Games in 2012, was omitted from the Wrestling Federation of India's Rio preparatory camp, which will begin in Sonepat on Wednesday.

Instead, Narsingh Pancham Yadav was included for the camp in the men's 74kg freestyle division since he acquired the berth at the World Championships in Las Vegas last year. With the WFI not showing much interest in conducting a trial in the 74kg, Sushil had taken the matter to the doorsteps of the Prime Minister's Office. He also appealed to the Sports Ministry, Indian Olympic Association, WFI and fans to give him a chance to undergo a trial for the Rio Games as, according to the rules, the quota belongs to the country and not a particular wrestler.

The court today said that while it one cannot undermine Narsingh's performance, it does not find Sushil's intentions wrong. It rebuked Sushil Kumar saying, "Wrestlers should focus on practice not sit in court. Will intervene only as last resort. India's chances in Rio should not suffer."

The court will give its reply by tomorrow.

11:45   Actor Jiah Khan's death: SC orders faster probe
Just in: Supreme Court asks Bombay High Court to decide on the Jiah Khan death case expeditiously.

Jiah Khan was found dead on June 3, 2013 at her flat in Juhu. Her boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi was arrested for abetting her suicide on June 10, 2013 but released on July 2 after the HC granted him bail.

Following a CBI report of December 2015 that termed Jiahs death as a suicide and not a homicide, Jiahs mother Rabya moved the HC again, seeking investigation by a special investigation team, which would be assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation asserting that Jiah was a US citizen.

The mother alleged that it was not a suicide but a murder and Pancholi should be charged under section 302 (murder) instead. The actor has been charged with section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (abetment to suicide). The trial was, however, stayed by the division bench of the High Court on hearing Rabyas petition in February, 2016.

11:18   Terminate Raghuram Rajan as RBI governor immediately, Swamy writes to PM
BJP MP from RS Subramanian Swamy writes to PM Narendra Modi, seeks immediate termination of RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan.

Days after being nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Bharatiya Janata Party, politician leader on May 12 embarrassed his party by saying RBI governor Raghuram Rajan should be removed from his post as he is not fit for the nation.

Swami's comments came after it was reported that the RBI governor a day before had said foreign banks have stopped opening branches in India as they need to set aside a lot more capital due to the country's 'higher risk' credit rating. Delivering a lecture at Cambridge University, London, the RBI governor also said foreign banks think it is 'not worth' opening banks.

It's those comments that likely made Swamy unhappy.

"In my opinion, the RBI governor is not apt for our country. His move to increase the interest rates, so as to cut down inflation and stabilize the economy, has backfired and has badly affected the nation," Swamy told reporters.

Swamy blamed Rajan for non-availability of cheaper capital in the country.

He said Indian competitors stand no chance against cash-rich multinational corporations like Walmart unless they get capital at the same rate.

"They get capital at two percent interest. In India, the interest rate is 12 percent or even higher, thanks to Raghuram Rajan," Swamy said.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office declined to file criminal charges in the case at the end of last year , and Goins voluntarily dismissed her federal lawsuit without prejudice in February.

01:59   Trump warns of major attack by refugees in US
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has warned of major terror attacks by refugees coming into the United States.

"I do, I actually do," Trump said when asked whether or not he believed it would take a large-scale attack on US soil for Americans to 'wake up' about border security.

"Bad things will happen -- a lot of bad things will happen. There will be attacks that you wouldn't believe. There will be attacks by the people that are right now that are coming into our country, because, I have no doubt in my mind," he said.

Trump warned that the US faces danger of a terrorist attack from the refugees coming to the country, the National Border Patrol Council reported. And no one knows where they are from Syria or somewhere else, he said.

"I mean you look at it, they have cell phones. So they don't have money, they don't have anything. They have cell phones. Who pays their monthly charges, right?" he asked.

"They have cell phones with the flags, the ISIS flags on them. And then we're supposed to say, isn't this wonderful that we're taking them in? We're led by people that are either incompetent or they don't have the best interests of our country at heart," the Republican presumptive nominee said.
