23:07   Jindal poses with gun at campaign stop, met with online mockery
Republican presidential candidate and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal posted a photo of himself holding and admiring a weapon while at a campaign stop in Iowa Friday.

Jindals photo caption reads: My kind of campaign stop; Capital Armament in Sibley.

Jindal has proven to be a strong supporter of gun ownership rights during his tenure as governor, signing several pro-gun rights bills into law in the state of Louisiana.

Still, not everyone is buying Jindals affection for weapons, especially on social media. The photo received some mocking comments on Twitter, saying he was pandering to constituents and calling him a poser. One commenter called it Jindals Dukakis moment, referencing the 1988 campaign photo of Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis riding in a tank.

Politico refers to that image as one of the worst campaign backfires in history.

23:04   Vyapam: 3-member panel to examine scribe's viscera at AIIMS
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences has constituted a three-member board to examine the viscera samples and conduct histopathological examination of tissues of TV journalist Akshay Singh who died under mysterious circumstances while covering Vyapam scam.

The board members include Additional Professor Dr Adarsh Kumar, Professor Dr Millo Tabin and Senior Resident Doctor Shashank Pooniya, all from the Forensic Department of AIIMS. According to AIIMS sources, the viscera samples are likely to be sent to CFSL Delhi while histopathological examination of tissues will be conducted at AIIMS itself. "There are two parts of it - there is a possibility that the viscera samples (internal organs) which is required for performing toxicological analysis will be sent to CFSL Delhi while histopathological examination which involves microscopic examination of tissues to study manifestations of disease will be carried out at AIIMS itself," the sources said.

The viscera samples were handed over to the Head of the Department of AIIMS, Dr Sudhir Gupta by a police team from Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, earlier in the day. As per post-mortem done by Dahod General Hospital in Gujarat, no internal or external injuries were found on his body.

He had an enlarged heart and weight of the heart was more than normal and lungs were congested, the report stated.

However, doctors who conducted the autopsy had "reserved" their opinion on the cause of death, following which the samples were brought to Delhi. Singh, working with Delhi-based TV Today Group, suddenly took ill and died last Saturday after having interviewed parents of a girl Namrata Damor, who had been found dead near railway tracks after her name figured in the Vyapam scam.

The demand for sending the viscera outside the state was made by Singh's sister in a letter to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Bowing to public outcry, Chouhan said he will request the high court  to order a CBI probe into the Vyapam case, including the large number of deaths of people allegedly linked to the scam.

20:41   Gogoi furious at Centre for neglecting Assam
With funds allocated for development work in the state drying up, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said his government was bringing out a white paper comparing and detailing funds allocated to the state by the Centre during the previous United Progressive Alliance government and the incumbent National Democratic Alliance government, reports K Anurag.

The white paper will be tabled in the state assembly and shall be made part of official record. He said the white paper would serve to negate the oft repeated claims of visiting Union ministers about the substantial allocation of funds to the state under the present regime.

Gogoi also charged the Centre of not releasing money in time for developmental works in the state and that he would continue to knock at the doors in New Delhi with his 'just demand' for greater allocation of funds to the backward state."We (the North Eastern states) are not beggars, we are elected chief ministers. We will continue demanding what is justified,' Gogoi said maintaining that even those NE states which have the Bharatiya Janata Party's allies in power have also been deprived of funds from the Centre.

"The NDA government has made changes in the old system of funding the NE states. If the change could bring about better fund flow from the Centre, it would have been alright. But there has been no positive change, the NDA has just messed up the system,' Gogoi said.

* Rs 1,000-2,000 penalty if the driver misbehaves.

* Rs 1,000-2,000 penalty in case of tampering of meter.

* Rs 1,000-2,000 penalty in case of irregularities such as overwriting, forged entries in the log book.

These conditions are part of the tender document released by the Ministry of External Affairs last week. 10:49   SC agrees to hear PIL on CBI probe into Vyapam scam
Just In: Supreme Court agrees to hear petitions seeking CBI probe into Vyapam scam on Thursday.

The multi-crore scam is becoming murkier with each passing day and over 45 people have died in the case.

On Monday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the probe by Special Investigation Team into Vyapam scam was being monitored by the Madhya Pradesh high court and the government cannot direct the court to hand it over to CBI.

"SIT probe into the scam is on, and the government cannot direct the High Court or the Supreme Court on the issue," Singh said.

Asked why the state government was avoiding a CBI probe into the massive recruitment/admission scam, Singh said the high court and the Apex court had already rejected a PIL in this regard. "There is no point in handing over the ongoing probe to CBI at this juncture," he said.

"In case someone tries to influence the probe, or if any incident takes place that affects the investigation, then I am sure that the court will take cognisance. If the Supreme Court or the High Court feels that the probe is not perfect to the extent it should be, then it will give directions and the government will immediately accept it and hand over the matter to the CBI," Singh said.

Trainee sub-inspector Anamika Kushwaha was found dead in a lake in Sagar district on Monday. It followed the unexplained deaths of journalist Akshay Singh and Jabalpur Medical College Dean Dr Arun Sharma.

10:21   Will insist on forced accountability in Parliament: Congress
Asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence over the Lalit Modi controversy, a senior Congress leader has said that the principled opposition party would insist on "forced accountability" during the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament.

"We would like to warn the Prime Minister that if he, the BJP and RSS feel that by stonewalling the justified demands of resignations of two of his cabinet colleagues and Chief Minister of Rajasthan, who stand exposed and condemned, and by persisting with his obduracy the opposition would relent, he is sadly mistaken," Deputy Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma told PTI.

Sharma is currently in New York, to attend a meeting of the International Council of the Socialist International, an umbrella organisation of 152 political parties across the world.

"The Congress party, as the principled opposition, will insist on forced accountability and the responsibility for adverse fallout would squarely lie on the door strop of Prime Minister Modi," he claimed.

He was referring to the allegations made against External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Union Human Resources and Development Minister Smriti Irani, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia.

While returning to Chennai around 21.23 hours on June 8, the CG791 vanished off the radar screens of the Coast Guard personnel at Trichy, around 95 nautical miles south off Chennai. All efforts to trace its whereabouts since then have been fruitless.

In his short letter to the PM, Soni wrote, "Request you to look into this matter with utmost urgency. The search process needs to be fast-tracked and we should do whatever is required to get the results ASAP."

CNN-IBN reports: In some good news for flyers, airlines will not be allowed to charge domestic flyers for check-in baggage weighing up to 15 kg.

A joint investigation team by central and state agencies will commence a probe from Tuesday on the seizure of a suspicious foreign dhow with 12 Iranian crew members intercepted off the Kerala coast.

The team, comprising personnel from Coast Guard, Navy, Kerala Police and those from central agencies, will be headed by Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner HR Venkatesh, sources told a news agency.

The Coast Guard had on Sunday intercepted the foreign dhow and had brought it to the nearby Vizhinjam coast.

The sources said that the statements given by some of the crew members of the boat, which had left Kalat in Iran on May 25, were not matching.

Though the crew stated that the boat was 'drifting', they were not able to tell why they had not called for help.

A Pakistan ID card and a satellite communication set had also been recovered from the vessel by the officials.

Coast Guard said the boat has been handed over to police.

08:37   South Carolina senate votes to take down Confederate flag
State senators in South Carolina have voted 37-3 in favour of taking down a Confederate flag that became a lightning rod for outrage after last month's Charleston massacre.

The yesterday's proposal now is set to go before the House of Representatives, amid growing public demands for the red, white and blue banner to no longer fly outside the legislature in the state capital Columbia.

"It's the right thing to do," said Democratic state senator Vincent Sheheen as he and his colleagues in the Republican-dominated legislature took up the hot-button issue.

For 15 years, the flag has flown alongside a Confederate memorial on the manicured lawn of the Republican-dominated legislature in the southern state where the Civil War erupted in 1861.

But calls for it to go were rekindled by the June 17 mass murder of nine blacks -- including a state senator -- at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church in Charleston.

Dylann Roof, 21, a suspected white supremacist charged with the killings, has been seen in online photographs flaunting the Confederate flag, which some embrace as a symbol of Southern heritage but others condemn as a banner of racial hatred.

Governor Nikki Haley, a Republican with Tea Party support, spoke out in favour of taking down the flag in the wake of the Charleston shooting.

02:33   'BRICS bank will play a major role, but much work lies ahead'
The BRICS-backed New Development Bank will play a major role in multilateral development of financial institutions, but there are still many unanswered questions at this stage, the bank's newly- appointed vice president Leslie Maasdorp has said.

As leaders of the bloc meet in the Russian city of Ufa for the 7th summit of the organisation, Maasdorp told the daily Star that the unanswered questions were because of the fact that the bank was still at ground zero in terms of its establishment.

"The Treasury in South Africa together with the other treasuries in the BRICS countries have done considerable work over the past few years as part of the feasibility studies for the bank," said Maasdorp, a South African banker.

"We will naturally leverage off that work as a significant resource base to steer the establishment of the bank," Maasdorp said. Maasdorp said he could not comment further on how this would pan out as the president and three other vice presidents had just been appointed to finalise these matters over the next few weeks in Shanghai.

00:17   Swamy demands special commemorative stamp on Thackeray
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has said he has written to the Centre asking for a special commemorative stamp be released in honour of late Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

"I have written to the Government today asking for a special postage stamp in honour of Balasaheb Thakre (Bal Thackeray)," he tweeted yesterday.

Swamy's demand comes at a time when the Sena is celebrating golden jubilee year of its foundation.

The move by Swamy, who merged his Janata Party with BJP ahead of Lok Sabha elections last year, is being seen as an attempt to revive his more than three-decade-old ties with Shiv Sena, which is the junior partner in the Fadnavis Government in Maharashtra.

Soon after the October 2014 Maharashtra Assembly polls, Swamy had tried to persuade the estranged ally Sena to join the BJP Government which was initially in a minority. Swamy had met Sena President Uddhav Thackeray and stressed on the need for the Hindutva parties to work together.

00:14   ISIS video shows execution of 25 men in ruins of Syria amphitheater
A just-released video from ISIS shows militants executing 25 captives in the ruins of a Roman amphitheater in the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra.

The graphic video begins with images of the Quran, followed by gruesome scenes showing what appears to be the aftermath of fighting, with bodies in the street. Then it shows captives, heads down and dressed in dark fatigues, as they are herded single-file onto the stage of an ancient arena. A row of young men, many appearing to be in their teens, stands behind the prisoners while an older man reads a document to the assembled crowd.

Periodically, the video shows men seated on the crumbling stone seats. Some are waving ISIS flags, but others appear distressed, hiding their faces and even crying.

When the cue is given, the young militants shoot the assembled captives all at once. The scene includes an editing trick which runs the film in reverse, making the deceased appear to rise and get shot again.

00:06   Day of extremist violence across Nigeria kills more than 60
A day of extremist violence against both Muslims and Christians in Nigeria killed more than 60 people, including worshipers in a mosque who came to hear a cleric known for preaching peaceful coexistence of all faiths.

Militants from Boko Haram were blamed for the suicide bombings Sunday night at a crowded mosque and a posh Muslim restaurant in the central city of Jos; a suicide bombing earlier at an evangelical Christian church in the northeastern city of Potiskum, and attacks in several northeastern villages where dozens of churches and about 300 homes were torched.

President Muhammadu Buhari condemned the attacks on places of worship and said the government will defend Nigerians' right to worship freely.

It was the latest spasm of violence by Boko Haram extremists who have killed about 300 people in the past week apparently after an order by the self-proclaimed Islamic State group for more mayhem during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Earlier this year, Boko Haram became an affiliate of the Islamic State group.

The deadliest attack came on Wednesday when more than 140 people were killed mostly men and boys mowed down by gunfire as they prayed in mosques in the northeastern town of Kukawa.
