Incessant heavy rains today led to water-logging at IGI airport in New Delhi, causing inconvenience to passengers who waded through knee deep water while the baggage handling system was left crippled.

The monsoon arrived in Delhi today a fortnight ahead of schedule, with national capital recording around 36.6 mm rainfall. But the airport witnessed an "unprecedented" rainfall of 117.8 mm in four and half hours, between 1 PM and 5.30 PM.

The airport experienced 62.8 mm of rains between 1 pm and 2.30 pm and 55 mm between 2.30 PM and 5.30 pm. The amount of rain water, combined with poor drainage in the surrounding area and topography of airport led to back flow of water towards the Terminal 3 of the airport.

10:31   Nitish Kumar starts talking to Independents for support
It is certain that the BJP will skip the Cabinet meeting convened by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at 11.30 am, but the latter is now exploring options to dismiss the BJP ministers in case they abstain, reports Vicky Nanjappa.

While Kumar is certain that he will break the alliance, the next task ahead of him would be to garner the necessary support to keep his government afloat.

Sources say that Kumar has already started talking to the independent MLAs in Bihar for their support. He has called four independent MLAs for talks.

At the moment, however, it appears that his government will have no problem in sailing through post-BJP. He has 118 MLAs in a house where the magic number is 122.

One of the independent MLAs who wished not to be named told rediff.com that they are keeping an open mind and in the interest of stability would consider supporting the government in case a trust vote is called.

However, these MLAs are likely to bargain hard and seek lucrative positions, which the JDU is likely to oblige.

It is not clear as yet if the BJP leaders who are part of the coalition would attend the meeting or not.

The BJP in Bihar says that it would wait and watch and also added that the mandate was given to a BJP-JD-U combine and hence if the alliance was breaking, Kumar would have to step down as chief minister. The BJP even rejected an offer by Kumar to discuss the modalities of a split, and insisted that the CM should step down if he breaks the alliance.

There is hectic political activity in Bihar and today may even see Sharad Yadav stepping down as the convenor of the NDA.
