Sons and daughters of top leaders made a political debut tasting victory in the Maharashtra assembly polls carrying forward dynastic politics with President Pratibha Patil's son Rajendra Singh Shekawat leading the pack.

Shekhawat won the Amravati constituency for the Congress defeating Congress rebel and independent candidate Sunil Deshmukh by a margin of about 6,000 votes. Though Shekhawat was trailing initially, the figures were reversed after noon.

Poonam Mahajan-Rao, daughter of late Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, lost the Ghatkopar West constituency to MNS candidate Ram Kadam by a margin of over 25,000 votes.

Poonam's cousin Pankaja Palve, daughter of BJP leader Gopinath Munde, kept the Parli constituency in the family by winning with over 96,000 votes.

Madhusudan Kendre, Munde's elder brother's son-in-law and a BJP candidate, from Gangakhed constituency lost to independent candidate Ghandat by 19,000 votes.

In a classic revenge, Om Raje Nimbalkar, son of murdered Congress leader Pawan Raje Nimbalkar, won the Shiv Sena seat from Osmanabad constituency with over 1 lakh votes defeating Congress' Ranajagjit Sinh Patil, son of Padamsinh Patil who has been accused of murdering Pawan Raje.

Shiv Sena's Vaibhav Naik, nephew of late Congress leader Sridhar Naik, lost the Kudal seat to Congress leader and former Sena chief minister Narayan Rane by a margin of over 22,000 votes.

Congress' Rohit Deepak Tilak, great grandson of Lokmanya Tilak, lost the Kasba Peth in Pune city, while Union minister and party Member of Parliament Anand Adsul's son Captain Abhijeet Adsul won from Daryapur seat by a margin of 15,000 votes.
