Three Maoists were killed in two separate encounters in Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. The encounters occurred a day after a group of suspected Maoists looted Rs 10 lakh from a bank in the same district.
According to the police, two Maoists were killed in an encounter in Polavaram forest area of Khammam on Tuesday.
In another incident, a Maoist was killed in an encounter with the police in Nandigamapadu village. The police recovered a rifle, a hand grenade and 20 bullets from the scene of the incident.
Earlier, a group of eight suspected Maoists stormed a branch of the State Bank of Hyderabad in Satyanarayanapuram village of Khammam district and looted Rs 10 lakh. The armed men locked the staffers and three customers inside the bank manager's cabin and fled with the money. The police have launched a search operation in the area.
Once a hotbed of Maoist activities, Andhra Pradesh had witnessed a lull in violence after the state government launched an intensive operation to flush out the Maoists, till this latest spate of attacks.
