In a survey conducted by Nielsen, for Telugu news channel NTV, an overwhelming 78 per cent of the electorate in Andhra Pradesh stated that they would like to see Jaganmohan Reddy succeed his father YSR Rajasekhara Reddy as the next chief minister.
According to the survey, the results of which were also released by the Congress Legislature Party, caretaker Chief Minister K Rosaiah was second on the popularity chart with 13 per cent support. While state Congress unit president D Srinivas and union ministers S Jaipal Reddy and D Purandareswari had 3 per cent support each, other leaders could not muster much support, according to the survey.
Nielsen interviewed 400 to 600 people in each of the 23 districts in the state and a vast majority of people in all the three geographic regions -- Telangana, Andhra and Rayala Seema -- wanted the 37-year-old Jagan to be the next CM.
Understandably, his popularity rating was the highest -- 93 per cent -- in his home district Cuddipah and 90 per cent in Nellore. It was the lowest in Khammam -- 65 per cent -- and in Chittoor, the home district of Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu.
A total of 11562 voters were covered during the survey.
According to the survey, the majority of the people supported Jagan because they believed that he would be able to fulfil his father's dream better than any other leader (65 per cent ), he can keep the party united (39 per cent), it will be a way of thanking YSR for his service to the people and the state (33 per cent).
