Wipro lands NSE data warehousing job

The other party who will actively participate in building the data warehouse is Citicorp Information Technology Industries Limited. It will provide data warehouse-specific tools and associated services.

The exchange has issued a 'request for proposal' to five prime bidders - Tata-IBM, CMC, TCS, Tata Unisys and Wipro Limited.

NSE officials said that with this the exchange would be the first organisation to implement a system of this magnitude and size (500 gigabytes).

In the first phase, the NSE will focus on building a module for risk containment. This application will help the NSE in effectively monitoring exposure limits and margining requirements of members across multiple market systems.

Thus the proposed enterprise-wide data warehouse system will be a unified pool of data from all the operational departments and act as a vital decision-support system.

Unlike a normal transaction processing system, a data warehouse will houseclean, unify data from multiple operational systems and provide 'online analytical processing' capability.

The system would help the NSE maintain historical and current data from various operational systems of the exchange.

It will not only enable cross-functional analysis of data seamlessly but also facilitate quick access to a variety of information at a single point.

The data warehouse will be implemented on the existing DEC Alpha 8200 server and Oracle 8 RDBMS.
