Last updated on: November 9, 2009 20:34 IST

There was pandemonium on the first day of the new Maharashtra assembly on Monday when Maharashtra Navnirman Sena legislators roughed up Samajwadi Party member Abu Asim Azmi for taking the oath of office in Hindi. As Azmi started to take his oath in Hindi, several MNS members swooped on him and pushed him aside.

Four MNS legislators were suspended for four years from the house. Political parties across the Country like the Bharatiya Janata Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal-United condemned the incident. Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan also condemned the incident.
