A Delhi court on Thursday extended by 14 days the judicial custody of suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Shahzad in the September 2008 serial blasts case in which 26 persons were killed in New Delhi.

Shahzad, who is being quizzed in connection with the September 13 Delhi serial blasts, was remanded to judicial custody till March 18 by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja.

The IM suspect, arrested from Azamgarh district by Uttar Pradesh by Anti-Terror Squad on February 1, was earlier remanded to judicial custody till today by the court as police did not seek his further custodial interrogation.

Shahzad was also an accused in the Batla House encounter in which a Delhi Police inspector was killed on September 19, 2008.

The IM suspect is alleged to have fired at the deceased police officer M C Sharma.

According to the Police, Shahzad, along with another IM operative Junaid, escaped during the encounter with the special cell sleuths of Delhi Police at Batla House on September 19, 2008. A total of five cases were registered in connection with the serial blasts.
