A source in the investigating agency told rediff.com that preliminary investigations reveal that the Indian Mujahideen had carried out the blasts at the behest of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba.
The preliminary reports from the forensics would reveal that the bomb which was used in the Pune blasts bears the signature of the Indian Mujahideen.
The IB says that they are analysing everything and, while piecing together the confessions of the arrested terrorists and also the meeting of the Jammat-ud-Dawa at Pakistan occupied Kashmir a couple of weeks back, it is clear that the two outfits had carried out the blasts.
The IB says that the speech delivered by JuD deputy chief Abdul Rehman Makki in which he made a specific mention about Pune is being analysed.
"We are reading into it and building leads on the same," sources say.
The IB further points out that the modules of the IM had coordinated with the Lashkar in Lahore after the meeting and planned the blasts.
However, their target was not the German Bakery, but they were relying on the information that LeT operative David Headley had given them regarding the Chabhad House in Pune.
However the foot soldiers from the IM's Pune unit were not able to get into both the Chabhad House or the Osho Asrham, and hence bombed the German Bakery which attracts several foreigners.
Investigating agencies point out that they are on the trail of on of the IM founder members Mohsin Chaudhary who had fled following the Delhi blasts.
"We are also awaiting the report from the Delhi police who are currently interrogating Shahzad, the IM operative in connection with Delhi blast," sources said.
Further, the investigating agencies are also in touch with other states who have information on the Indian Mujahideen. They are looking to track the movements of Riyaz Bhatkal, the IM founder who is said to have played a key role in this blast.
Off late Bhatkal has been shuttling between Lahore and Karachi and has been in constant touch with the operatives in India. He has also been constantly meeting with the Lashkar leadership and planning a series of strikes in India, IB sources say.
However, more information on Bhatkal would be available only if the police manage to get more information from Shahzad and Mohsin Chaudhary, who had last interacted with the founder of the IM, they add.
