Floods: Sonia, Chidambaram to visit Bellary

Congress president Sonia Gandhi [ Images ] and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram [ Images ] will undertake an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Karnataka's [ Images ] Bellary district on Monday.

Sonia Gandhi and Chidambaram will arrive by a special flight. Union Ministers M Veerappa Moily [ Images ] and Mallikarjun Kharge [ Images ] will also accompany them.

In Karnataka, thousands of people in the northern part of the state continues to battle for  survival for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday, as the rescue work was hampered by swirling waters and destruction of roads and other means of communication.

The state government has estimated the losses at over Rs 10,000 crore, and sought urgent Central assistance.
