Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day tour of his parliamentary constituency Amethi attacked PM Narendra Modi over the Rafale deal. "Modiji kehte the ki mujhe PM mat banao chowkidaar banao, chowkidaar ne Hindustan ki Air Force se Rs 30,000 crore lekar Anil Ambani ko de diye," he said.

He also addressed his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's entry into politics with her appointment as the party's general secretary for eastern UP. "Aaj maine Priyanka ko General Seceratary bana diya hai UP ka, matlab ab yahan pe Congress apna CM bithane ka kaam karegi. Dilli mein Congress party ke gathbandhan ki sarkar or UP mein poore dum se Congress party ladegi."

Earlier, Rahul said he was "very happy" that Priyanka will assist him in the Lok Sabha polls and asserted that he was ready to cooperate with BSP-SP to defeat the BJP. He also said that Jyotiraditya Scindia is a dynamic youth leader. Rahul's comments came hours after Priyanka became AICC general secretary and was made in-charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Scindia was given the charge of western Uttar Pradesh.

"I have not sent them here for two months but given a mission to take ahead the true ideology of the Congress to take the poor and deprived sections of society along," he said.

"The Congress is fighting for its ideology... Priyanka and Jyotiraditya are young and strong leaders and with their help we want to change the politics of Uttar Pradesh," Rahul said, adding he had complete faith that both of them will work and give what is required to Uttar Pradesh and its youth.

To a question whether Priyanka will contest the Lok Sabha election, he said it is up to her but his point is that the party will not play on the backfoot anywhere.
