The BJP is mulling whether Sangeeta Jaitley should be fielded to the Rajya Sabha in place of her late husband, the former union minister and BJP senior leader Arun Jaitley, who passed away on Saturday, August 24.

Another contender for the chair is Arun Jaitley's son, Rohan.

The BJP top leadership will hold a discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and take a decision, when he returns to Delhi on Tuesday. A final call will be taken by this weekend.

Arun Jaitley, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat in April 2018, would have ended his term in March 2024.

The Election Commission is likely to announce the vacancy and fresh election dates in early September.
