Path for united opposition is clear in 2019: RLD's Tabassum on lead in Kairana

After securing a huge margin in the Kairana bypolls, which is being seen as a massive prestige battle in an election year leading up to the 2019 national polls, RLD's Tabassum Hasan said that the results were a huge victory of the truth.

"This is the victory of truth. I still stand by what I said, there has been a conspiracy & we do not want any future elections to be conducted on EVM machines. The path for united opposition is clear in 2019," she said.

As of now, Hasan is leading by over 30,000 votes to the closest contender from the BJP.

The by-poll has been widely pitched as another test of opposition unity against the BJP after the Samajwadi Party and BSP pooled their resources to defeat the ruling party in its strongholds Gorakhpur and Phulpur in March.

Bypolls were held in Kairana because of the death of Mriganka Singh's father, BJP parliamentarian Hukum Singh, in February.
