With just an hour left for the crucial floor test in Karnataka assembly, Congress leader D K Shivkumar says, "I am sure that he (Yeddyurappa) will himself resign before the trust vote. Anand Singh will definitely come and support Congress."

His statement comes amid speculations in local media that B S Yeddyurappa may take the '1996 Vajpayee route'.

In 1996, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was sworn in by President Shankar Dayal Sharma as the Prime Minister. The BJP did not have numbers but decided to stake a claim and form the government. Vajpayee faced the trust vote, made an emotional speech and then decided to quit and drove down to Rashtrapati Bhavan to tender his resignation.
