Former Union Minister Arun Shourie clarifies on the statement he is believed to have made at a book launch recently where he slammed the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, calling surgical strikes against Pakistan farzical or fake.

At Congress leader Saifuddin Soz's book release function, Shourie also also said there has been no improvement in the ground situation in Kashmir even after the surgical strike.

Speaking to ANI, Shourie said today, "I never had any doubt on the fact that the strike took place. But to use it for propaganda and to boast about it that 'my chest is 56 inch & I gave a befitting reply to Pakistan', is wrong.

"Two reporters from North Indian channels misconstrued my words. I did not denigrate the services. When I said 'farzical' I meant that the over-hyping of a military strike makes it into a farcical incident.

"Imagine a situation if strikes would have happened during Atalji's time & people would have asked him, he would've had a twinkle in his eye and  said "Really a strike has happened?". Today the credibility of the govt is so low that they have to provide video proof when asked."
