Indrani's ex-driver begs for forgiveness

Shyamvar Pinturam Rai -- Indrani and Peter Mukerjea's former driver --  was produced in the sessions court, Kala Ghoda, today at CBI Special Courtroom No 51, in connection with the Sheena Bora murder trial.


The Mukerjeas once ran INX Media Services Pvt Ltd.


Rai had applied for bail over two months ago. The reply from the prosecution has not yet come in. CBI Special Prosecutor Kavita Patil promised to examine the legalities of giving bail to an approver before the trial is over and if exceptions can be made on any grounds.


Rai, who is lodged in Thane jail in suburban Mumbai, took the witness stand and wept, his hands folded, saying he had no one to support his family or no "sahara" or means to raise his kids. He asked for forgiveness.


The ex-driver also complained of health problems adding he could not see properly and heard strange sounds in his left ear.


Judge Jayendra Chandrasen Jagdale promised to pass an order to have his medical issues investigated. His wife Sharda and son and daughter were present in the courtroom.
