The CBI today carried out searches at the prestigious Viswa Bharati University in Santiniketan in connection with alleged irregularities committed by a former Vice-Chancellor.

CBI sources said searches started at seven places this morning after the agency registered a case on a reference received from the Central government in this regard. It is alleged that UGC guidelines were not followed in the appointment process during the tenure of a former Vice-Chancellor, the sources said. The University was founded by Rabindranath Tagore.
