Deonar dump yard fire: Area to be declared prohibited in wake of sabotage claims

Just in: Mumbai's Deonar dump yard to be declared a prohibited area in wake of the fire at the grounds, which the BMC says was caused by sabotage. An FIR has been filed over the issue.

Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar today said a two-member special team will be sent to investigate the incident.

Javadekar, who held a telephonic conversation with the municipal commissioner of Mumbai on the issue, blamed the fire on the "callousness" of the contractors in charge of managing the dump yard and said action will taken against the violators.

Asked if there was a possibility of a "sabotage", he said it will be clear once the team submits its report after their investigation.
