NIA arrests 19-yr-old in West Bengal for IS links

A 19-year-old youth has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency for his alleged links with the Islamic State and facilitating recruitment and radicalisation of some people in West Bengal.

Ashik Ahammed alias Raja, a resident of Hooghly district, was arrested on Wednesday in a case related to terrorist conspiracy.

'His role has emerged in the case as a facilitator to some of the key members of the IS-affiliated terror module, who wanted to recruit and radicalise youths in West Bengal,' a statement issued by the NIA said.

Ahammed was today produced before the NIA special court here and remanded in police custody for five days.

The accused was pursuing a diploma course in Mechanical Engineering in Durgapur in West Bengal.
