Just in: IAF Hawk trainer jet crashes shortly after take-off from Kalaikunda, West Bengal. Both pilots punch out safely. Details awaited.

On July 22, AN-32, IAF's Port Blair bound transport plane went missing after it took off from the Tambaram air base in Chennai at 8.30 am.

In June, a Russian-made MiG-27 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed near the Jodhpur airbase in Rajasthan during a training flight, underscoring the perils of an ageing aircraft fleet. The fighter jet was the second fighter aircraft to crash this year.
