India has suspended the passport of billionaire Vijay Mallya, who is in the UK at a time when banks are struggling to recover nearly a billion dollars owed by his Kingfisher Airlines.

Mallya, 60,  left India for UK on March 2 using a diplomatic passport issued to him by virtue of him being a sitting Rajya Sabha MP.

He has since defied several requests requesting him to return for interrogation.
