Army honours martyred Major Amit Deswal

The army honoured martyred Major Amit Deswal today.

A wreath laying ceremony was held in Imphal to pay homage to the young soldier.

Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag also paid tributes to the deceased soldier.

Major Amit Deswal was killed during a combing operation conducted by the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Forces in Tamenglong district of Manipur. The soldiers had engaged in gunbattle with Zeliangrong United Front militants in the Nungba area.

Deswal, of 21 Para SF, received a gunshot wound to his stomach during the operation. Unfortunately, his body could not be recovered immediately as the area was densely forested.

Manipur CM Ibobi Singh also extended his condolences to the bereaved father.
