Majeed Memon, leading criminal lawyer and a former defence lawyer in the 1993 bomb blasts case, questioned the need for the Maharashtra government's "hurry" in executing Yakub Memon even before the outcome of the second review petition. He said that executing Yakub Memon for the Maharashtra Government is easy because he is a Muslim.


"The government of Maharashtra is interested in executing this man for political reasons, communal reasons, for extra legal considerations which God only knows but definitely suspicious on the conduct of the part of government of Maharashtra.


"It would definitely be easy because he is a Muslim that he has to be hanged early which is very sad,' Majeed told ANI.


"Are they pre-empting the issue or are they already before-hand aware of the outcome of the review petition? They should have waited till the matter is finally decided," Majeed Memon, a top NCP leader and Member of Parliament, said.


Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party legislator Abu Azmi criticised the state government over "leaking of Memon's execution date".
