Amarnath yatra resumed from Jammu after 2-day suspension

The Amarnath yatra resumed today after being suspended for two days due to inclement weather and Jammu-Srinagar highway closure as a fresh batch of 4,633 pilgrims left from Jammu base camp to Amarnath cave shrine amid tight security.


"Amarnath yatra has resumed from Jammu today after two-day long suspension. A fresh batch has been sent from here today," a police officer said. The batch, with 3,302 men, 1,012 women, 80 children, 238 sadhus and another person, left in a cavalcade of 119 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp at 4:45 am today, he said.


The convoy reached Kud on the national highway at 10 am and would reach its destination at Baltal and Pahalgam base camps by this evening, he added.


With today's batch, as many as 27,098 pilgrims have so far left from Jammu base camp for Amarnath shrine. Over 1.5 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance so far at the 3888 meters high cave shrine
