What is the difference between Kitty Kelly's muckraking volumes on famous leaders and "scrupulous' biographies by the late William Manchester, described as "one of the greatest popular historians of the 20th century'? 

If sales are the only criterion, both would be equal in their standing in the academic world. Fortunately it is not. This thought comes to my mind when we discuss A S Dulat's book Kashmir: The Vajpayee Years.
