Cartoonist Rajinder Puri is dead
February 16, 2015  18:25
Barely a fortnight after celebrated cartoonist R K Laxman passed into the ages, his contemporary and fellow cartoonist, Rajinder Puri, died on Monday.

A political cartoonist with publications like Hindustan Times, the Indian Express and the Statesman, Puri was also a co-founder of the Janata Party in the 1970s. Where Laxman was gentle in his mocking, Puri was often caustic.

Condolences were quick to pour in, with cartoonist Sudhir Tailang tweeting: 'Sad news! One of India's best political cartoonists- #RajinderPuri is no more. He was acidic, acerbic and hard-hitting! Spared none! RIP.' Pritish Nandy called Puri 'one of our best cartoonists ever'. Cartoonist Manjul said he was a 'brilliant political cartoonist'.
