Obama greets, praises "good friend" Dalai Lama in public

US President Barack Obama today hailed "good friend" Dalai Lama during their first public encounter, calling the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader as an "inspiration for freedom and dignity" in a move that is bound enrage China.

The two Noble Peace Laureates greeted each other as Obama entered the ball room of a hotel here to deliver remarks at the high-profile National Prayer Breakfast, attended by around 3,000 US and international leaders.
