Constable killed in Karkardooma court shootout, 2 injured, 4 arrested

Police constable Ram Kumar died after being hit by three bullets in a shootout at the Karkardooma Court complex in Delhi.

Constable Ram Kumar had come to the court while escorting prisoner Irfan Chanu for a court hearing. Chanu had been in judicial custody and was to give a witness statement in the Metropolitan Magistrate's court in courtroom number 73.

As soon as the constable entered the court with Chanu, four men opened fire at the prisoner.The firing took place inside the courtroom while the court was in progress.

Sources say the court had already received a threat of a possible attack on Irfan.Constable Ram Kumar suffered three bullet injuries in the chest, the accused Irfan also suffered three bullet injuries while the court clerk got two bullet injuries.

The court clerk and Irfan have been rushed to the hospital. Coonstable Ram Kumar later succumbed to his injuries.All four assailants have been detained. The four assailants reportedly belong to the Naseer gang.Courtroom number 73, where the shootout took place, looks after cases from the Bhajanpura-Seelampura area.
