A division bench of the Supreme Court will hear a writ petition by the Shree Akhil Bharat Krishi Goseva Sangh to stop illegal transport of cows to Bangladesh.

The petition says thousands of cows are being smuggled every year along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Taking serious note on the issue, the Supreme court has sent notice to 14 states and 32 government agencies. On basis of a research report prepared by an NGO Shree Vardhman Pariwar, the petitioners have alleged that transporters put chilli powder in eyes of cows to prevent them from sitting and transporting 300 cows in one truck, which can hardly accommodate 100.

In exchange, Bangladesh sends explosive material, arms and ammunitions, fake currency notes and sometimes cash which ultimately help terrorists.

The Supreme Court has decided to attach this petition to Nepal's Gadhimahi case, in which cattle are smuggled to be sacrificed at the Hindu festival. Eminent advocates Soli Sorabjee and Dr Manish Singhvi are appearing for the petitioners.
