LIVE! BJP names Arun Jaitley as Chandigarh candidate

Arun Jaitley, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, is the BJP candidate from Amritsar. Three or four more BJP Rajya Sabha MPs are being asked to contest the Lok Sabha polls. Interestingly, Navjot Singh Sidhu will be elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat, the seat which Arun Jaitley will vacate after getting elected to the Lok Sabha in June 2014. Sidhu will be Rajya Sabha MP upto 2018.

There is also speculation that the BJP is keen to have Meenakshi Lekhi, Nirmala Sitaraman, Swapan Dasgupta in the Rajya Sabha, with the vacancies created by four other Rajya Sabha MPs.

Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha's son Jayant and late Pramod Mahajan's daughter Poonam were among the 100 candidates finalised today by BJP for Lok Sabha polls.
