June 14, 2011  15:19

Just in: West Bengal Assembly passes the Singur Bill amidst a walkout by the Opposition. The Bill proposes to return land to unwilling farmers of Singur in "equivalent quantum'.

The bill called the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill, 2011, revokes the lease agreement with Tata Motors for the 997 acres at Singur, citing issues of non-performance and failure to meet project goals.

This was one of the promises Mamata Banerjee had made, the day she was sworn in as chief minister of West Bengal.
