Amitav Ghosh's advice to writers: Work hard!

Author and co-winner of the Crossword Book Award 2009 in the Fiction category, the much sought after Amitav Ghosh, found himself swamped by admirers at the Crossword Book Award 2009 ceremony.

When he finally came up for air, he was besieged with questions -- everyone wanted to know what the veteran author's secrets were!

Down-to-earth and realistic as always, Ghosh's message to young aspiring writers was, "My advice to writers is to work hard. What you see here is not even the tip of the iceberg; barely 1/100th of what one writes that actually makes it to the pages of a book." (For more, see the video)

Ghosh is best known for works like The Hungry Tide and The Glass Palace amongst others. His latest book is called Sea of Poppies, which won him this award. He has also won the Sahitya Akademi Award.
