Telangana Rashtra Samiti activists on Monday hurled stones at the convoy of Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu when he was traveling to Mahbubnagar in the Telangana region, leaving some TDP workers and media personnel injured.
Tension prevailed in Parigi as the police chased away the protestors, who also raised slogans against Naidu and in support of Telangana. Some TDP workers and some media personnel were injured in the stone pelting, media reports said, adding that one of the SUVs in the convoy was damaged in the stone-pelting. A police constable also received a head injury in the stone pelting.
The TRS workers demanded that Naidu clearly spell out his stand on the demand for a separate Telangana state. A TDP leader accompanying Chandrababu Naidu alleged that TRS workers and a few members of the Bharatiya Janata Party mobbed the residence of Parigi Member of Legislative Assembly K Hareeshwar Reddy when the TDP chief stopped there for breakfast.
"They tried to storm into the MLA's house and pelted stones at Naidu's convoy and damaged window panes. When some television cameramen tried to record that, they too were beaten up, resulting in injuries to some," he told PTI.
Following this, the police immediately swung into action and cane charged protestors and chased them away. While Naidu's convoy was on its way to Chevella, the activists tried to block his convoy but the police thwarted their attempts.
Later, the Leader of Opposition in the AP assembly continued his tour and addressed a public meeting at Tunkimetla.
The former CM was on his way to Mahbubnagar district to interact with farmers on the fertiliser scarcity being faced by them. He was scheduled to stage a dharna in front of the district collector's office in Mahbubnagar.
