The United Jihad Council, a conglomerate of Kashmiri organisations, has called last week's foreign secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan as nothing but a "ploy to defuse the international pressure."
"No progress whatsoever could be made in the talks between the foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India on Thursday so it could be stated that talks have been unsuccessful," The News quoted Syed Salahuddin, UJC chairman, as saying. "The core issues, including the Kashmir imbroglio, were not discussed by the foreign secretaries of the two countries," he added.
According to him, the reason behind the unsuccessful dialogues between the two countries was lack of genuine intent from New Delhi. "The world pressure on India is growing, so New Delhi has staged the drama of talks to hoodwink the international community and waste time. India is not serious in resolving the genuine issues with Pakistan," he said. "India is not only occupying Kashmir and subjecting the Kashmiri people to barbarism but has now also resorted to water aggression against Pakistan," he added.
