Flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi remained affected due to dense fog on Wednesday, disrupting the schedules of over 50 domestic and international flights.

"Fog started enveloping the airport from 10 pm on Tuesday night and runway visibility dropped to 50 metres, due to which 21 domestic and international flights were diverted, while 15 others were cancelled," an airport official said.

Some other flights to Chandigarh, Jaipur and Shimla were also cancelled. Nearly 10 international flights headed to Delhi were also delayed.

The runway visibility on Tuesday night dropped to 50 metres and continued to hover between 50 metres and 100 metres, affecting the schedules of departing flights, as the minimum runway visibility required to take off in poor visibility is 150 metres.

Though some flights landed using the CAT-IIIB Instrument Landing System on Tuesday night, 21 flights had to be diverted to Jaipur and Lucknow. According to the Meteorological department, the dense fog is likely to dissipate after 11 am.

On Tuesday, over 200 flights were affected after thick fog enveloped the airport and reduced the visibility to 50 metres.
