Tata-IBM to wire Kerala

A Tata-IBM spokesperson announced in Thiruvananthapuram that the partnership would enable KELTRON to market and support the IBM product range in India.

KELTRON would thus have access to the latest PC technology brought to India by IBM. It would enable KELTRON to offer IBM PC servers, desktops, laptops and home computers to customers in India, especially Kerala, through its widespread network and support facilities.

The spokesperson quoted Sanjiv Mittal, vice-president, Tata-IBM, as saying that the company sees synergy in the tieup. KELTRON will be an important player in the IBM game plan in the government sector in Kerala.

This is complementary and will enable KELTRON to offer the high quality and price competitive IBM PC range to end-users, he claimed.

It will also enable IBM to enhance its market coverage for PC operations. With the IBM PC business poised for a major growth in India, the tieup could not have come at a better time, Mittal said.

KELTRON, fully owned by the Kerala government, is the first electronics development corporation in the state sector.

Now into its 25th year, KELTRON manufactures and markets products ranging from electronic components to major systems in control and instrumentation, telecommunication, satellite communications, power, electronics, strategic electronics and computer-based systems and also undertakes major turnkey projects.

The operations of the company in the field of information technology are aimed at systems integration and providing customised solutions for computerisation.
