IBS sets up shop in Kerala

International Business Services Group Limited, a new venture specialising in offshore software services for the air transportation industry, has started full-fledged operations from the Electronics Technology Park (Technopark) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

A 100 per cent export-oriented firm, IBS, seeks to provide world-class software development services to large business houses in Europe and North America, according to a company spokesperson.

Software from the IBS group finds wide application in the airline, airport, cargo logistics and travel agency and transportation businesses.

The computers, network infrastructure and software technology used at the company's 8,000-square feet state-of-the-art development centre at Technopark matched the best available in the business.

IBS boasts what is probably the country's only development centre of its kind to have an all 'NT switched network' of about 100 Pentium Pro computers and high-end servers.

IBS starts off with 65 software professionals and has an initial planned investment of Rs 50 million. The spokesperson quoted V K Mathews, chairman and managing director, as saying that the group had "steady and deliberate" plans to expand its operations, centred around Technopark.

Atraxis, the information technology company of the SwissAir group and a leading software supplier for the global transportation industry, has commissioned a pilot project with IBS.

Atraxis owns some of the best known systems and services, and through the tieup with IBS, plans to straighten its global positioning significantly.

According to Karl Immer, vice-president, Atraxis, and manager-in-charge for the venture with IBS, his company looked forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with IBS.

The facilities and the technology offered by IBS are equal to, if not better than, those available in Europe, he added.
