IBM to stress on training business in India

International Business Machines has announced its plans to expand its training and education business in India as an independent profit centre by appointing about 100 authorised training providers in the country by the end of the year.

"We have already signed up with 80 ATPs and the number will go up to 100 by the yearend," IBM Learning Services General Manager N N Khurana has said.

A tie-up with Delhi based Majestic Software Limited for a training programme on electronic business solutions has been announced.

Majestic Software will offer the e-business solutions training programmes in Bombay and New Delhi. The company also has a development centre in the NOIDA export export processing zone.

Of the 80 tie-ups signed by IBM, 40 ATPs have been made operational, Khurana said. He said e-business solutions would become an integral element of all software development work in the next couple years.

It is already a key element in "About 80 per cent of the software development work," Khurana said.

According to an IDC report, e-business in India is expected to reach $160 million by 2001, which in turn would trigger the growth of software exports in the country.

On the global scale, the e-business solutions market has grown at a staggering pace in the last few years.
