UP to jam cell phones signals in jails

Email this story to a friend. The Uttar Pradesh government will install an electronic jammer system in five sensitive jails of the state to check the misuse of cellular phones by criminals.

State Jail Minister Shivpratap Shukla told reporters in Allahabad today that the system would jam the operation of cellular phones so as to prevent criminals from having access to the outside world.

In the first stage, the system would be installed in Agra, Bareily, Naini and Lucknow jails.

There have been reports of misuse of cell phones in these jails where hardened criminals are lodged.
