Karnataka Telecom to offer Net service soon

Email this story to a friend. Karnataka Telecom is set to become an Internet service provider during the current year, Acting Chief General Manager K S K Moorthy has said.

He was addressing a joint press conference with Xerox Business India Group Managing Director H N Nanani to announce the new digital monthly billing facility for Bangalore Telecom subscribers.

Moorthy said that the circle would provide Internet service in Bangalore, Mysore, Davangere, Belgaum and Hubli.

Replying to a question, he said the Department of Telecommunications is already holding the required licence to start Internet service in all state circles.

From middle of November, Internet services through the telecom department would be available in Bangalore city, he added.

He said by 2001 the state would achieve 100 per cent telecommunication coverage and by next year the entire state would have direct dialling facility.

The department has to cover only 1,600 villages to provide STD facility, he added.

Moorthy who is also the senior general manager of Bangalore Telecom District said BGTD has entered into an agreement with Xerox Business Service for outsourcing its entire billing operations from them.

Under this agreement, Modi has installed a high-speed highlight colour, digital printing solution to the department.

With this the department has ensured timely despatch of customer friendly, accurate bill to the customer.
