'Computarium' in Bangalore mooted

Email this story to a friend. A 'computarium' on the lines of a planetarium will be set up at a cost of Rs 300 million to promote information technology among students in Karnataka, State IT Secretary Sanjoy Das Gupta has announced.

Gupta was participating in the one-day workshop in Bangalore on Internet videoconferencing and networking through cable TV. He told reporters that the computarium would be set up on a two-hectare site in Bangalore.

A consortium would include several multinationals like ITI Limited and CDAC besides the state IT department itself.

The computarium would have all facilities including design and development and several terminals for Internet access for the students. An exclusive wing children below 10 years would also be set up for imparting basic knowledge of computer operation and watching of cartoons and movies over Internet and cable.

The organisers would also tie up for arranging periodical visit of schoolchildren, he added.
