He hopes that the new brand name and the company's entry into the server market would help in registering over 40 per cent revenue growth in the current fiscal.

"The Indian subsidiary of SGI is expecting an increase in income by 40 per cent in 1999-2000. Last fiscal, our income was around Rs 900 million. We were hit badly by sanctions and I hope the new server market would change the scenario," Medury said.

He said the company is targeting to grab a major share in the Unix server market in India and would introduce Intel based servers by July.

"The Intel based servers will hit the market by the month of July and it would change the market drastically giving us an edge over other market leaders like IBM and Hewlett-Packard," Medury said.

"The business tie-up with microprocessor giant Intel and software major Microsoft would enable us to find a niche in the server market," Medury said adding that the main aim behind the new strategy is to give a facelift to SGI's business.

"We hope to increase our server market share from 20 to 35 per cent in India and 65 per cent worldwide," he said.

"The new business strategy is aimed at improving customer service and to find ourselves well positioned in the world server market besides the supercomputer segment and graphics," Agendra Kumar, director, sales, SGI India said.

"The three-pronged strategy will stress on solutions, desktop and the customer services," he said adding that the Indian subsidiary is expecting to produce more than 1,500 desktops yearly to meet the requirements of India and Bangladesh.

The company is also negotiating with the HRD ministry to explore the distance education programme and the final touches to the pilot project are now underway, said the chief of Indian arm of SGI. "SGI would shed half million dollars for the pilot project and foresees a great scope in this arena of education," Medury said.
