This would be the first customs office along the Indo-Bangladeshi border to be computerised and be linked to headquarters.

The computerised customs office would help in the smoother transaction of trade and quick disposal of passenger traffic, a release claimed.

The Dhaka-Calcutta bus service is bound to put added pressure on the customs officers. The computers would help them speedily check exim documents, prepare regular returns, charge duties and maintain related data.

The decision to computerise the office was taken after increased exim activities between the two countries following various bilateral trade agreements and the South Asian Preferential Trade Agreement amongst the SAARC countries.
