"The first set of recommendations of the task force have already been translated into new measures that include slashing import duties tax concessions etc. A second report on hardware has also been submitted. The final and concluding report is due within 60 days," Singh revealed.

"March 31, 1999, has been set as the target date to finalise the policy that seeks to integrate television, telephone, broadcasting and computers," he said.

While this final report will help the government focus on the immediate issues, a more general policy document is being finalised today.

A six-member sub-group will submit the draft policy today to the GoT, which in turn will submit it to the prime minister on February 19.

The report of the committee will be available at the site of the National Informatics Centre (http://www.nic.in/pmcouncils/got/), the centre's director general, N Seshagiri has said.
