The Bangalore-based United Telecoms Limited, has bagged the prestigious order for setting up APSWAN that is intended to use information technology to improve the effectiveness of governance.

The contract for APSWAN was signed between UTL and Andhra Pradesh Technological Services in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at a function in Hyderabad.

Under the project, a statewide information infrastructure would be created in the form of a multiservices wide area network to facilitate application of it tools for the state's economic development.

The network will be the backbone for data, voice and video communications.

In the first phase, the state secretariat will be linked to all district headquarters through a 2 MBPS link being made available by the Department of Telecommunications.

Later, the network would be extended to all the mandal and taluk offices, to ensure speedy interaction between the capital and districts as well as easy inter-district communication.

Operationally, the network will provide data linkage by connecting the local area network at the district headquarters to the LAN at the secretariat.

Voice linkages will be possible by interconnecting the PABX exchange at Hyderabad to those at the district headquarters through a linked numbering system.

The network will also enable video conferencing between state headquarters and district-level officials.
