Call rates cut
Under the new changes announced today, the off-peak calling rates have been brought down to as low as Rs 24 per minute for the SAARC region, Rs 40 per minute for Europe, Africa and Oceania and Rs 51.45 per minute for the US.

According to an official release, the new tariffs provide a long off-peak period of 13 hours. The off-peak hours for countries in Asia and Oceania start from 1900 hours and the off-peak rates remain valid till 0800 hours, giving an opportunity to call at low tariffs.

Off-peak hours for Europe are from 2200 hours to 1100 hours.

For countries in the American continent, there are two slabs for peak periods based on the time difference and calling pattern. The peak hours are 0600 hours and 1800-2400 hours while the off-peak hours are 1100 hours to 1800 hours and midnight (0000 hours) to 0600 hours.

The VSNL expects a significant growth in ISD traffic from India with the steep reduction in rates and convenient calling times, according to the release.
